In its recent analysis of car insurance policies in Westminster, California, Raltin found that unmarried male and female drivers with a clean driving record or with no more than one traffic violation pay the lowest premiums—$876. On the other hand, the highest premiums are paid by married drivers with one driving ticket. Insurance rates for this cohort of drivers start at $2,669.
This analysis is based on data published by the California Department of Insurance. For comparing car insurance rates, the vehicle chosen was a Honda Accord, with a yearly mileage of 12,600–15,000 for unmarried drivers. For married drivers, Raltin used Toyota Prius and Toyota Camry as a reference point, with a yearly mileage of 9,000–16,000.
Car insurance policies usually include certain discounts for multi-car insurance, multi-policy-credits, etc. One insurance holder in the city said, “My husband and I make sure that we thoroughly research available discounts offered by providers, before choosing insurance for our cars.” The multi-policy credits owned by insurance holders researched by Raltin, ranged from 0% to 15.7%. The multi-car discounts ranged from 0% to 27%.
Everest National offers the cheapest insurance rate at $876 for the above mentioned cohorts. It also offers the second-cheapest premium at $1,094 for single male drivers with a clean driving record, as well as for single female drivers with a history of one accident and one driving ticket. The cohort of married drivers with one driving ticket usually pay expensive premiums, which starts at $2,669, offered by Metromile.
Viking insurance company offers the most expensive premiums for all eight driver cohorts. It offers the most expensive premium, at $19,504, for single male drivers with one driving ticket and one accident. It offers the second-most expensive premium at $12,793 for single male drivers with a history of no accidents and one driving ticket. The third most expensive rate is for married drivers with a history of one driving ticket, at $10,131.
