13F filings in Q4 2017 by David Tepper’s Appaloosa management shows that the fund increased its holdings in Facebook from 3.3 million in Q3 2017 to about 5.5 million shares Q4 2017, , an increase of nearly 67%. As a result, the total value of Facebook shares held by Appaloosa Management increased to 9.9% of its total portfolio in Q4 2017 from 7.09% in Q3 2017.
The quarterly 13F form filed on the 14th of February shows that the total value of Facebook shares held by Appaloosa management were valued at about $975 million in Q4 2017. Comparatively, they were valued at $563 million in Q3 2017, an increase of 73.04% from Q4 2017.
In fact, the fund’s 13F filings since Q4 2016 reveals that the number of Facebook shares held by Appaloosa has always increased during till Q4 2017 except in Q1 of 2017 when the firm dropped its shares by 12.6%. As the below table shows, Appaloosa has increased its share by 153% from Q4 2016 to to Q4 2017. Facebook’s share price at the end of Q4 2016 was about $115. The share price at the end of Q4 2017 was $176, an increase of 53%. Appaloosa benefited from this massive run up in Facebook’s value. As the table shows, the overall value of Facebook shares held by the fund increase by 288% from Q4 2016 to Q4 2017.
